Osaka Castle Walks with Edward — History Beyond the Postcard
Real reactions from people who walked the ground with a resident historian.
"I was born and raised in Osaka, but I had never looked at this place together with its history before. After hearing the detailed explanation this time, I understood why Naniwa Palace and Osaka Castle were built here. You will find Osaka and Osaka Castle ten times more interesting."
"Excellent storytelling combined with deep research. Finally Osaka gets a proper history tour."
"We had the most incredible experience with Edward exploring Osaka Castle. Edward was incredibly knowledgeable and so friendly. Seeing Osaka Castle through Edward's historical lens was an absolute highlight of our trip to Japan."
"Walking around Osaka Castle with an interpreter by my side was a whole different experience! Many would visit Osaka Castle, snapping photos and admiring the surface beauty without understanding the history behind it. But today, Edward's explanations brought everything to life. Through his storytelling, I felt transported back in time."
"Very thorough and well thought out — which made a lot of connections when we went inside Osaka Castle; we already had the back story!"
"Edward's tour is excellent, especially for someone who is interested in the history of Osaka and Japan in its formative periods. Edward has a deep knowledge of the dynamics and people that shaped the beginnings of Japan, as well as the history of Osaka Castle. His tour is both fun and highly informative. Edward himself is personable, thoughtful and kind. Communication was easy and prompt. Edward provided informational materials both before and after the tour, including photos that he took during the tour. A wonderful experience overall!"
"The tour and insights left us with much to consider and discuss afterwards. Not often have we a tour that was so comprehensive and informed, and left us with a much altered view of both Osaka and Japan. Placing Osaka at the historical centre of the Japan we see today was revelatory. The guide's knowledge and enthusiasm made for an exceptional experience for us."
"Edward was excellent, very knowledgeable and great at storytelling, recounting the history that led up to the construction of the castle, setting the stage for the conflicts that took place, and recounting the lives of the major players. If you love learning about history then this is definitely for you!"
5 stelle piene!!!"
Booked a private tour for 3 participants. Edward was an incredible guide who made us live all the history and political intrigue of Osaka Castle as if we were inside an episode of Shogun. Truly prepared and light in his explanations, suitable even for those like us who understand little or nothing. Experiencing the castle in this way was unique, also thanks to the cherry blossoms in bloom during this period (March 30). We thank Edward again from the heart and wish him all the best! Full 5 stars!!!
"A wonderful tour, a must if you like history!"
"What a great tour! Despite the pouring rain, we had an amazing tour with Edward. The way he connected each stop with the flow of history was truly impressive and kept us fully engaged the entire time. You can immediately feel how much knowledge, passion, and structure he brings to his tours. We also really appreciated the information we received before and after the tour, which helped us understand everything even better. A truly 5-star experience that we gladly and wholeheartedly recommend."
"This was one of the best guided tours we ever booked on GYG. If you are interested in Japan's history and getting into every little detail, then this tour is for you! Our guide Edward came absolutely prepared with pictures and maps. He offered me his sun-umbrella and made sure that we stood in the shade, whenever he stopped and explained something. You can feel that he is very passionate and knowledgeable about historical facts. He encouraged us to ask questions and exchange thoughts. It felt like a conversation, not like a monologue. It was very fun!"
"We thoroughly enjoyed the Osaka Castle walking tour. Edward's knowledge is superb and he transformed the Osaka Castle townsite walk into a history lesson and mystery who-dunnit, highlighting many places we would have just walked by. Edward's passion for this area and the stories of the 3 Unifiers truly painted a picture of what this place used to be and what happened in the era. We would highly recommend this tour for all who wish to look at the stories and history behind this amazing castle."
